Atlanta Area Coalition on Aging & Mental Health

Our MISSION

  • Provide a forum for collaboration between mental health and aging service professionals
  • To facilitate public education, professional training, and advocacy projects aimed at reducing the stigma surrounding, aging and mental illness, expanding access to mental health services and resources, and improving quality of mental health programs for older adults

GOALS / VISION

Promote and facilitate communication and current professional competency and skills among Atlanta-area mental health and aging professionals and the greater community.

ACTION STEPS:

  • In collaboration with NASW-GA Chapter, provide continuing education in area of geriatrics and mental health
  • Identify, prioritize, and advocate for legislative issues relevant to older adult mental health care

February 25, 2011 Workshop
Capacity to Care:  Building Competency in Geriatric Mental Health

This one day workshop was designed for social workers and other clinicians interested in enhancing their knowledge and skills to treat older adults with psychiatric illness.  Over 90 people were in attendance.  A video of each presentation can be viewed by clicking each link below.  Slides of the power point from each presentation are available in the "Community Partners" section under "Documents.  A link to NASW GA to sign-up, pay for and complete a post-test for CE credit will be made available at a later date.
